Also presents the science behind tidal lore, including the legends of Scylla and Charybdis, the story of Moses parting the Red Sea, the conquests of Julius Caesar, the Boston Tea Party, and the D-Day landings in Normandy.

I good mix of science, history, and literature. I really liked the final section in which he discusses modern scientific methods for measuring the rise of sea levels, tidal changes, and future possibilities. Although he includes other locations, the author is very Eurocentric (North Atlantic, North Sea, and Mediterranean), so if you are from these areas you might enjoy the wealth of details.
