This book offers a first hand experience of women living in an Islamic state. This religion has been used as an umbrella to shield the participants from accepting that their lifestyles violate the most basic of human rights. These women don't even know what honor is, yet they are forced to be raped and beaten to protect their father's honor. The truth is that the Muslim religion is actually a way to enslave women. Muslim men have no respect for their own daughter's or wives. Muslim women should renounce their religion and rise up! Call for help and women around the world would come to help.

Those who do not understand the sickness that is taught by Islam may not believe this book is written about the truth.

As horrific as it is, it is happening to young girls that will forever have their lives changed. Nujood had a very meager existence before being married off to a much older man. Reading of her abuse and having her mother-in-law ignore her pleas for help is heart wrenching.

As Americans we cannot allow this tradition of abuse to invade our society as the followers of Islam grow daily on our soil.

The book addresses some groups who are fighting this in Yemen to save the female children there. Thankfully, there are some who are willing to try and stop it.

I couldn't put the book down. It's an easy read, but very compelling. It gives an excellent description of what her life was like before her marriage--which she was not consulted on.
She is a brave and determined woman to go against the rules and say no, it's not acceptable to her to be abused.
It made me realize how lucky we are here in America.

A very liberating story of a young girl whom seeked freedom from an abusive marriage that tears apart the aspects of matrimony in this Middle Eastern country. Such a grand array of politics is often misunderstood especially by western culturized people. In many ways this young girls story is so compelling; has opened the minds and ears of even some of the most respected figures worldwide. A heroic journey from what seems impossible to most women or men in a modern day world was completed and done by a girl only of 10 where resources and services are only dreamt of in a world like Yemen.

Inspirational. Too bad her father is controlling all the money coming in from the book. She is no longer going to school and her father's new wife has kicked Nujood out of her own house (bought with the help of her French publisher). Her father is as bad as her ex-husband. Yemen law does not protect females.

What a heroic story of this 10 year old girl and all the hardships she has faced. Because of her story many other Yemeni girls have found the strength and courage to come forward from their forced marriages of abuse and demand a divorce. A truly inspiring memoir.

Heartbreaking eye opening story of the lives of girls in Middle East countries. Until women are treated with equal respect and not like property can we really expect changes that can lead to peace in the Middle East?

A quick read. Not too much depth, but revealing of the less fortunate women in the world, especially young brides.

This is by far one of the best true stories I have ever read! To hear how at nine years old nujood was married off but found the courage to seek a divorce in a country dominated by men is incredible. It leaves you to wonder though how many other nujoods there are out there but that don't have a happy ending.

The world has known some amazing women that have stood up to change what they see as injustice, they are not often 10 years old.
Nujood had the courage to say NO to her situation and go against her culture and family that all told her she must just endure. Deprived of an education to the point she was unable to read and could only write her first name, this little girls courage changed not only her situation but has changed laws and saved others like her.
She was named woman of the year and after you read the book you will see why she is one of the most worthy winners. There is no self pity in this book unlike most 'survivor' stories, and no blame from her to those who put her in the situation. I read this book in one morning and would urge everyone to read this girls story.

This shows she has power.
