Failed attempt to bring the material to the screen. It's very long. It has a few interesting scenes, but overall I found myself in countdown mode -- waiting for it to end.

I'm actually a fan of Greek tragedy and familiar with this play, though not at a scholarly level. But I'm wondering how easy it would be to do justice here. I don't mean a slavish following of Euripides either. In the case of this film, cutting off probably forty minutes to an hour would've tightened the drama. Removing some of the staring shots -- actors stares either into the camera or just off camera -- especially in the beginning might have worked too. (Such dramatic glances work well, I believe, usually when we're already invested in the character. Early on in this film, I didn't have any investment. So bearded man staring doesn't add up to much.)

On the plus side -- why I didn't give this film an even lower rating -- there is the location and some of the acting is good despite the direction/camerawork issues.
