One of my childhood favourites! I couldn't even begin to count how many times I reread this book when I was younger. A great introduction for children to everyday life in medieval England. Catherine is also an excellent role model for young girls, as she is determined and speaks her mind despite consequences for doing so (women did not tend to have their own opinions during this time). It is also very funny, and girls especially will find it easy to relate to Catherine.

This is a classic. A great historical fiction piece about a spunky 11th century teenage girl who has bigger plans than marrying a rich lord.

Anyone who loves historical fiction may want to give this one a try, and teens who hate historical fiction because they think it is dull and long-winded may want to try this one as well and they will find this a fun, fascinating look at medieval times told through the eyes of a teenage girl. The story is written in diary format and is a really good, fun read.

This book is very funny and insightful as to 11 century living. It is such a good read. Both my daughters enjoyed this book as early as age 8. Some words needed explaining, like "vespers" but it increased their vocabulary and comprehension as well as tickled the funny bone.
