Really good book! Yes, there is a bit of a Tolkien vibe, but not a lot. I really enjoyed it and will read it again.

Written at a young age by Paolini, most would say that limits the writing ability, but in this case, I say it only enhances the authenticity of his protagonist. Eragon is a young man, seemingly of no importance, but destined for greatness. In this first book of the series, He discovers he is one of a lost order of dragon-riders, perhaps the only one. Through the events of the first book, he begins an epic journey to understand his powers and seek vengeance on those who have hurt him and his family. Expect to be awed by Paolini's rich world-building and detailed descriptions. You'll be happy to know that this thick tome continues in three equally thick sequels.

The fantasy language made it a bit difficult to keep track of all the names. The book has a bit of a lord of the rings feel to it. Over all a very interesting story with an intriguing world and characters.

Eragon is the first book in the Inheritance Cycle. The story follows a young protagonist by the name of Eragon and how finding a mysterious stone throws his life into chaos when it hatches a dragon. Following the eggs hatching Eragon names the dragon Saphira. When the news of her spreads to the ears of the mad king Galbatorix, the gang is forced to flee. All in all the story is quite enjoyable to read, but it is very easy to tell that the story was made by a sixteen year. Things like Razak are very reminiscent of the Nazgul from Lord of the Rings. Eragon as a person doesn’t seem to have any noticeable character change in his actions despite the author writing to the contrary. The story also relies heavily on the “Hero’s Cycle,” which is a guide to writing an adventure. The only problem with using the cycle however is it makes the plot somewhat predictable and leaving the story of little surprises. I really enjoyed this book and I want to continue reading this series. I have heard that Paolini confirmed he was inspired by Tolkien but I can't confirm, especially since I haven't ever read one of Tolkien's books. I love the characters and I'm especially interested in the relationship between Eragon and Arya. The language that Paolini uses sort of reminds me of Old English which I personally enjoy reading. I also love the way that he describes everything because it gives me such a good depiction, I can easily picture it in my head. Overall, this book was really good and I can't wait to read the next one in the series.

If I had read this as a teen I might have enjoyed it more. I was looking for something light to read, and I decided to try some popular YA.

I found it difficult to read through this book. The book seemed too similar to other books and stories, especially Tolkien.
It seemed like places and landscapes were named and described by an unimaginative person, just describing what others had written or built before.
Too many names of the type that add apostrophes randomly to names, in an old English kinda way? It seems set in a somewhat medieval land with swords and blacksmiths. There is magic and dragons, spells and I'm gonna call them Orcs and Wraiths though this author calls them something else. There's mind reading like in Harry Potter, and herbs and the power of words.
It even reminded me of Star Wars with young Skywalker caught in a battle bigger than himself. The Empire vs the rebels, good vs evil and Choice to be made...

If you're a pre-teen or teen this Might be OK, a more experience reader might trudge through frustrated by the "plot".

A fantastical fiction about friendship, family and dragons! Follow the story of Eragon and Saphira as they attempt to overthrow a corrupt king.

Eragon told Saphira, "You should land somewhere now and hide. We're going in." "Sticking your nose where it doesn't belong. Again." She said sourly. "I know. But Brom and I have some advantages most people don't. We'll be all right." "If anything happens, I'm going to bind you to my back and never let you off."
"I love you too."
"Then I will bind you all the tighter."
