I am not throwing away my shot
I am not throwing away my shot
Hey yo, I'm just like my country
I'm young, scrappy, and hungry
And I'm not throwing away my shot
I am not throwing away my shot
I am not throwing away my shot
Hey yo, I'm just like my country
I'm young, scrappy, and hungry
And I'm not throwing away my shot
"I've been reading 'Common Sense' by Thomas Paine - some men say that I'm intense - or that I'm insane - you want a revolution - I want a revelation - so listen to my declaration - we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal - and when I meet Thomas Jefferson - I'm gonna compel him to include woman in the sequel - WORK"
"Number 1 - I'm a girl in a world in which my only job is to marry rich, my father has no sons, so I'm the one who has to social climb for one..."
"I am not throwin' away my shot, I am not throwin' away my shot, yo I'm just like my country, I'm young, scrappy and hungry, and I'm not throwin' away my shot."
Notices
Add NoticesSexual Content: Hamilton does have an affair, but it's able to skipped quite easily. Just pass over the song, "Say No to This."
Coarse Language: Lots of language, even if you get a non-explicit version there is still a decent amount of language.
Coarse Language: Some of the songs have bad words like "B*stard", "Wh*re", "Sh*t", "Fat Motherf*ucker", "P*ss", etc.

Comment
Add a CommentA new generation of musicals! Hamilton is a great way for teens to learn about history while enjoying the hip-hop music.
The story of one of America's founding fathers, Alexander Hamilton, told mainly through a hip-hop inspired soundtrack, and performed by a mainly non-white ensemble. An incredible soundtrack for a groundbreaking musical. Warning: songs will be stuck in your head for days after listening.
If you can't go out and see Hamilton live, this album will at least have you dancing in your house and learning something about American history at the same time. SO catchy - a cultural phenomenon for a reason!
The stage performance was mesmerizing. I wish I would have listened to these CDs before I went. Part of the amazement is that the unusual musical presentation really worked to energize the historical retelling. So much was included that to be able to follow the written words really showcased the brilliance of the poetry of this musical. This is a treasure for our times that solidly connects one all the way back to our founders lives as they began our nation. And the stories are so universal, that they are what we are living right now.
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Everything about this is amazing, and it's incredible that people all over the world are more involved in learning about history now. Their own country's history and America's. I don't see how people dislike this. Yeah, maybe America today isn't so great, but remember this was based on events over 200 years old. There really can't be "foreshadowing" or "ships" (as a lams shipper it pains me to say that) so just chill out, and listen to this chill music. thank you.
I don't get it. To be fair, I've never seen a production of Lin-Manuel Miranda's show, which debuted on Broadway in 2015 and has gone on to become the musical of our time, as well as introducing millions of white people to hip-hop. As someone who actually listens to and likes hip-hop, well, this is pretty mediocre. I would've liked to have been in the room when they pitched this, "I mean, we know the founding fathers didn't rap, but, just maybe, they did?" I think Hamilton was kind of an anti-democratic jerk who was shot by Aaron Burr. Daveed Diggs, who plays Jefferson, recently wrote and starred in "Blindspotting." There are around 50 songs and it clocks in at over 2 hours, so it's a slog to listen to. I'm sure it's better in the theater?
Hamilton is an eye-opener. I used to hate all forms of rap, but now, I am slowly growing to enjoy it. Each song was truly unique in its own way, and just listening to the entire track wasn't satisfying enough. I will definitely be buying tickets once Hamilton comes to Calgary. Even after listening to the same music over and over, I cannot, absolutely cannot, resist singing. Nothing can compare to Lin Manuel Miranda's writing.
Awful. I listened to this so I could comment intelligently on the music. It is rap, very forgettable rap. After I turned off the CD, I could not hum, recall or sing part of any of the songs. Completely forgettable.
I listened to. The. Whole. Long. Endless . CD. I kept thinking " Well that last rap song was not very melodic, but maybe the next song will be better." No. " Well those last two rap songs were not melodic, but maybe the next will be better. " Maybe the next, maybe the next. Finally! The thing was over.
This was so fantastic! I loved it! Nothing like seeing it in person, i'm sure--but the music was ingenious and so catchy! I have never heard the life of Alexander Hamilton before, but i sure won't forget it!
This is literally the best musical I have ever heard.
Everyone should listen to this musical.
If you'e not into musicals, fine. But at least you can listen to a few tracks and agknowlge the beauty and work that is Hamilton.
