I enjoyed this movie and think it is under-rated. I always look forward to stuff Ed Helms is in, and also enjoy seeing Christina Applegate in anything she does. What makes this movie engaging for me is the character development. Rusty Griswold is a successful adult by outward appearances but is put upon in his profession as an airline pilot. His two young boys have a odd dynamic where the younger son bullies the older one. (The child actors playing their roles give tip-top performances.)
This isn't simply an updated "Vacation" for the next generation. It's funny and smart, and has some heavier moments when Rusty's marriage to Debbie appears to be crumbling. The scenes with the senior Griswold parents wasn't over-done either. They are now retired and running a bed-and-breakfast inn (to horrible reviews) in San Francisco. But there are still the cringeworthy scenes - like "4 corners" and the "Are you decent?" bit with Rusty's brother-in-law. You'll have to watch it to find out the references.

Ok movie. Can't capture the awesomeness of the original National Lampoon's Vacation though.

I loved this movie. It stays consistently funny throughout the movie. I would re watch, no questions asked. Just don't watch it with your parents or family, as there is tons of rude language and "adult jokes." I highly recommend this movie, it is the most hilarious adult comedy I have ever known!

Not consistently funny throughout, but it did have quite a few hilarious scenes. I liked it.

I love the original so I was skeptical of this film. It was absolutely great, though. I was crying laughing during several scenes. The chemistry between the "family" was perfect and the kept it throughout the whole movie. I'm not going to go out and buy it for my collection, but it makes for a great movie night.

Vacation is your typical reboot of a classic movie franchise, in that it shouldn’t have been made. In this film, it’s Rusty Griswold taking his family on a nightmare vacation. It has its moments of being funny, but overall, it’s not good. I’m quite disappointed that John Francis Daley left his role on the television series Bones to make this movie. The performances were fine. Ed Helms is good at his role of Rusty, but it feels like Helms plays the same guy in everything else that he is in. The same goes for Christina Applegate. The film isn’t the worst, but it’s not the best. It’s more of a disappointment to watch with a few funny adult jokes to throw in there too. As well there are a few cameos that are kind of expected in this film with a few that were not.

Awful. There is nothing redeemable about this movie. I had the expectation that it would resemble the strength and humor of National Lampoons Vacation but it was just plain awful, with constant cursing and despicable behaviors.

Was a nice comedy mixed with fluffy family moments. Good actors. Good DVD movie

Several hilarious scenes! That car and the physical comedy were the best done parts. Not great on characters, dialogue or story though.
Oh my the rocket ship! And the muffin!

This movie was horrible. I feel bad for Christina Applegate (who seems like a nice person) for having to be in this. The cameo of Chevy Chase/Beverly D'Angelo at the end was painful to watch. There is not one funny moment in this whole movie. It could possibly be the worst movie ever made. Not even the gorgeousness of Chris Hemsworth can save this.

Rusty Griswold: I just wanted to sing Seal with my family like normal people.

Rusty: I have an idea.
Debbie: What?
Rusty: Handbrake turn.
Debbie: What?
Rusty: Pull the wheel left, yank the handbrake, do a 180, cross the median, drive past him.
James: You know how, Dad?
Rusty: If Vin Diesel can do it, so can I.
Rusty: This trip's been a nightmare.
Grandpa: Well, that's what family vacations are. But you can't give up, Russ.
Rusty: Well, why not?
Grandpa: I mean, they always say "it's not the destination, it's the journey," right?
Rusty: The journey sucks.
Grandpa: That's what makes you appreciate the destination.

James: Why'd you get an Albanian car, Dad?
Rusty: Renting a family car on Memorial Day weekend doesn't leave you with a lot of options. But this baby is pretty sweet. It's got all the latest Albanian technology. Check it out. Plug-in hybrid. ...
-Dad, what's so special about Walley World? I mean, we have plenty of theme parks at home.
Rusty: Well, Walley World is home of the one and only Velociraptor.
-What the hell is that?
Rusty: It's only the newest, scariest roller coaster in the country. Four hundred and fifty feet tall, 110 miles an hour...triple corkscrew loop.
