this is john's weakest title. why: there are no original compositions. John's strength was as a songwriter. that said, it's not bad at all. PEGGY SUE is my favorite here. JUST BECAUSE finds him saying good bye to something, or somebody (maybe it was show biz: he did take a five year hiatus, after recording this collection of old time hits). and then was assassinated .. . . .these were the songs john was brought up on. he's only singing here, with a massive Spector-directed band going through take after take after take after take until Spector was satisfied. the session was in L.A., and halfway through, Spector fired a gun into the ceiling. john produced the rest of this, in NYC. if you like this one, see if you can find LIVE PEACE IN TORONTO,aka SWEET APPLE TRAX, which features Eric Clapton on lead guitar, Alan White on drums, Yoko Ono on warbles and in her bag, and Klaus Voorman on bass guitar. This was the first incarnation of PLASTIC ONO BAND, and it only lasted the one night in Canada.
