Abstract: This study aims to identify relationships between three forms of nonverbal behavior - forward lean, eye contact, and smiling - and othersperceptions of an individual's competency, power, and likeability based on variations of these nonverbal elements. Using an online survey questionnaire, participants viewed eight different images of a female in multiple nonverbal behaviors: sitting upright v. leaning forward while sitting, making direct eye contact v. no eye contact, and smiling v. not smiling. Immediately after viewing each position participants answered scale questions pertaining to the female in the images, of which the same set of questions was used for each image.
