Pocahontas was abducted by the English settlers in 1613 during the First Anglo-Powhatan War. Pocahontas was held captive for a year, during which time the English negotiated her release in exchange for prisoners and weapons. During this time, Pocahontas converted to Christianity, took the name Rebecca and married English planter John Rolfe. This engraving shows the events surrounding Pocahontas' capture.
