On the night of July 4, 1776, the same day that the declaration had been adopted, Congress employed Philadelphia printer John Dunlap to produce typeset copies of the document. Approximately 200 broadsides, known as the Dunlap Broadsides, were printed to send to the colonial governments and abroad. Only 14 copies are known to survive.
