The Tête à Tête

Rate this:
In this second painting, Hogarth shows the cracks in the newlywed's relationship. Already the household is in general disarray and an abundance of evidence that they have spent the night separately abounds. A little dog is pulling a lady's cap out of the hungover husband's pocket and the wife's disheveled appearance and open posture allude to her unfaithfulness as well.
