William Frend De Morgan was a member of the Arts and Crafts Movement and a close friend of William Morris. De Morgan was a designer of numerous decorative arts, including stained glass and furniture, but is best known for his earthenware tiles. Many of his designs have a rich color palette, are reminiscent of medieval and Middle Eastern motifs and often include fantastical creatures and birds. De Morgan is particularly noted for his lusterware, which exudes an intense iridescence due to the metallic glazes used during firing.
