Lafayette Curry Baker was a United States investigator and spy, serving for the Union Army, during the American Civil War and under presidents Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. This volume was written by Baker and accounts the history of some of the most notorious spies of the conflict. Baker went out to be the first chief of the Secret Service as we know it today.
