This bust comes from the second century C.E. and depicts the future emperor Marcus Aurelius as a boy. A noble adopted into the royal family by Antoninus Pius, Marcus Aurelius became the co-Emperor with his brother, Lucius Verus, in 161 C.E. The nature of his noble birth is apparent in this bust, which now resides in the Capitoline Museum in Rome.
