Book - 1294
Rate this:
This painting of Kublai Khan dates to 1294 and is now housed at the National Palace Museum in Taipei, Taiwan. It shows the Khan in white robes, which indicate his desired symbolic role as a religious Mongol and shaman. His interest in religion was exhibited when he asked Marco Polo's father and uncle, upon their first trip to China, to deliver a letter to the Pope, which requested 100 Christians be sent to his court to educate the Khan and others about Christianity and European culture.
