This painting depicts Henry, Prince of Wales, the eldest surviving son of King James and Anna of Denmark. Henry was in line to succeed his father's throne, but he died of typhoid fever at the age of 18. He was greatly mourned by the people, and Charles, his younger brother, never gained the glory and favor that Henry had enjoyed.
