This hand-painted etching depicts George Tierney dressed as an executioner. He is examining a guillotine and is surrounded by a crowd of liberty-capped citizens. Tierney became a prominent opponent of William Pitt the Younger, who raised taxes to pay for war against France and cracked down on radicalism. Pitt accused Tierney of being unpatriotic and a duel ensued although neither was injured.
