This article in the William and Mary Quarterly was written as a response to a meeting of the New England Historic Genealogical Society, during which they asserted that the Plymouth Colony was superior to the Virginia Colony, which was denied "any influence, in great measure, for good," and was merely a dumping ground for "undesirable citizens." The authors of the response take each assertion one by one, arguing that they are "gross," "unprovoked" and "untrue."
