The concept of a contemporized Passion play has a lot of promise but much of it went unfulfilled in this production. Tyler Perry's narration was wooden and halting at times. Although Chris Daughtry gave a standout performance Trisha Yearwood never seemed to reach the vocal or emotional heights her role and music selection called for. And Yolanda Adams' talents were sadly underutilized.

The crucifixion and resurrection are not even dramatized but come across almost as afterthoughts. Also, the production was cowardly in mostly erasing the important role of Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin in the arrest and trial of Jesus, choosing instead to finger the civil authorities almost exclusively.
